Our aims

The Transport Trust aims to increase support for transport preservation, acting as the hub of the transport preservation movement. Our aims are set out here.

Our plan of action

  • To support, both independently and in partnership with corporate members, specific restoration campaigns
  • To help establish covered storage for vehicles awaiting restoration to avoid further deterioration
  • To organise a number of visits during the year to places of transport interest
  • To extend award schemes and grants at critical points in the progress of restoration projects
  • To introduce young people to restoration projects in specially funded workshops (Heritage Skills Centres)
  • To act as custodian for items of transport history bequeathed or given to the Trust for safekeeping
  • To work with, and advise, the Heritage Lottery Fund on matters concerning transport heritage and preservation

How we are run

The Trust is fortunate to have as its Patron HRH Prince Michael of Kent, whose knowledge and passion about transport is widely respected.

The Trust is managed within a very streamlined structure, with the Board of Trustees representing the wider interests of the nation, for whose benefit the Trust exists, as a National Council. Our governance structure is set out in full here.

How we do it

One way that we can promote the importance of heritage preservation is to work with others to make our collective voice heard more clearly and coherently. An excellent example is our partnership with other leading heritage organisations, Heritage Link.
