The Trust acknowledges that in transport, as in other areas of preservation, exceptional achievements are built upon and sustained for the long term by the ongoing efforts of a vast army of supporters and volunteers.

It is for this reason that the Trust introduced a category of award for ’Lifetime Achievement’ in transport preservation.

The Award

For the Lifetime Achievement category, the preceding year should normally be significant in terms of a service anniversary or retirement.

The 2009 Award winners




In 2009, the Trust gave three Lifetime Achievement Awards. The Awards represented diverse areas of restoration, but each set a remarkable precedent for future years.
