Lifetime Achievement Award 2008
Recognising Exceptional Service
The Trust’s Lifetime Achievement Award is very special, paying tribute to those who have rendered long and exceptionally meritorious service to the transport preservation movement.
In 2008 three Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented by our Patron, HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

Michael Oliver MBE and Jean Oliver
Michael and Jean are the founders of the Great Dorset Steam Fair and its organisers for 40 years. A regular fixture at the end of August each year, The Great Dorset Steam Fair is a typically British event offering a unique blend of nostalgia and entertainment, a favoured place for those interested in how people lived, worked and played in bygone years. It is the biggest event of its kind in the world, attracting international entrants, exhibitors and visitors.

Don Storer
Don Storer was recognised for his contribution to many forms of transport preservation, particularly aviation, and particularly in Scotland. Finding a home for a preserved Spitfire and other aircraft led to the establishment of the Museum of Flight at East Fortune. A noted author, Don and his wife Shirley have served the British Aircraft Preservation Council since 1975.

Ellie Sallingboe
Ellie's award was given for over 30 years of dedication to the preservation and operation of Britain's only airworthy Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Sally B. When her partner Ted White was killed in 1981 she took up the challenge of keeping his very expensive machine in the air both as a tribute to him and as a flying memorial to tens of thousands of US aircrew who lost their lives in similar aircraft during WW2.
