Loans

To assist members in progressing their projects, the Trust will approve loans to members. Any request for a loan must have a clear link to a specific preservation project, meet defined financial conditions and be able demonstrate a clear route to how the loan can be repaid.

These loans can be of upto 5 years duration and for amounts between £5,000 and £10,000. Before a loan can be agreed, our Trustees will need to be satisfied that sufficient revenue can be generated from the project to repay the loan in the required timescale, and the loan must clearly be about preserving a significant item(s) of Transport Heritage. Security will also be required to protect the Trust's Funds

Examples of where the Trust has assisted projects via Loans are:-

  • Baby Deltic Recreation Project - assistance for materials to commence the project
  • 1903 Electric Autocar Trust - bridging finance associated with HLF payments
  • Gwili Vintage Carriage Group - for cosmetic restoration of Taff Vale 28
  • Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust - Turntable restoration bridging finance

Restoration Awards
The Trust supports preservation projects that are underway but not completed. Applicants need to show that some progress has already been made, that there is a clear and costed future plan and a realistic likelihood of completion within 12 months of the application being made. Applications will assessed on the basis of rarity, technical historic or social significance, quality of workmanship, proportion of work being carried out by applicant, originality of design and materials. In addition The Trust needs to be satisfied that, after restoration, the item will be seen and enjoyed at reasonable intervals by the general public and that, as far as is reasonably foreseeable, the item is not destined for the market place and will be retained by the restoring owner/s. Infrastructure projects will not be considered for this award scheme. For tips on applicability and how to apply for award ....
