Archiving our national heritage

The Trust holds literally thousands of books, periodicals, pieces of advertising literature and images of our transport heritage. It is an important, if fragile, resource and we attach enormous importance to building an extensive and comprehensive repository of material so that future generations of enthusiasts and scholars will have access to contemporary material.

If you have appropriate material or artefacts that you would like to donate to the Trust library, for the benefit of the nation, do get in touch with us.

Members of the Trust can download lists of much of the material held within our repository - an exclusive benefit of membership - from the Members Section.

Our work
Stephen Duffell is listing our railway material. Stephen is the custodian of the Railway & Canal Historical Society’s photographic collection, and in his care are over 1,800 negatives belonging to The Transport Trust.

These are all of railway infrastructure subjects thought to have been taken by the same photographer but there is nothing to indicate his or her identity. If you think that you might be able to throw some light on this collection and its age, do please email or write to the Trust, who will put you in touch with our Library. If you would like to discuss any aspect of the work of the Transport Archives, you can email our archiving team here.

Our new colleague
Neil Clarke has been joined by Lance Wise, a retired Royal Navy Lt Cmdr, who has begun the important task of creating a database of our maritime collection.
