When the Heritage Lottery Fund needed to assess the state of transport heritage preservation in the UK, it commissioned the Trust to research into the needs of four categories of transport heritage - aviation, buses and coaches, railways and small boats - in order to enhance its understanding of transport heritage. The resulting report is entitled ’Transport Heritage: An Assessment of Needs & Potential’.

Examining each category in turn before drawing some over-arching conclusions, the report addresses such critical issues as the availability of conservation skills, the public access potential of transport heritage and the support roles played by the various representative organisations.
